Subsets Favorite 2024 Super Bowl Commercials

Super Bowl LVIII culminated in an unforgettable fashion with the Chiefs besting the 49ers in overtime.

The big game brought in record audiences whether they were supporting San Francisco, Taylor Swift's boyfriend’s team, or simply eager to catch Usher's halftime performance. However, not all viewers tuned in solely for the game

The annual NFL championship game stands as the pinnacle of advertising, providing companies with a prime opportunity to showcase their products to millions of consumers. With ad spots in high demand and a limited supply available, the average cost of a 30-second slot remained at a staggering $7 million for the second consecutive year.

Here are some of the Subset team's favorites (in no particular order).

State Farm: "Like a Good Neighbaaa"

Arnold Schwarzenegger did his best Jake from State Farm impression as “Agent State Farm” in this action movie parody. The former governor of California struggled to hit the pronunciation of his neighbor line, luckily his former co-star Danny DeVito, chimes in with neighborly annunciation assistance.

Dunkin': "The DunKings"

Ben Affleck joins his beau J-Lo in the studio to lay down a new track with his boy band the “DunKings”. Tommy Touchdown aka Tom Brady and Matt Damon, begrudgingly supporting his bestie, support Aflleck in his dream of pop stardom.

CeraVe: “CeraVe with Michael Cera”

Michael Cera, known for his roles in "Superbad" and "Arrested Development," took to promoting his namesake skincare brand, CeraVe.

However, while the connection was evident, Cera seemed to exaggerate his involvement as an aptly named spokesperson. The advertisement prominently featured Cera holding the company's well-known facial washes and moisturizers, creating the impression that he was the mastermind behind the products (Spoiler: He isn't.)

Mountain Dew: “Having a Blast”

Aubrey Plaza of "Parks and Recreation" fame puts her deadpan delivery to work as she drinks Mountain Dew Baja Blast. Despite enduring a barrage of pool noodles wielded by children, enduring alien abduction, being ensnared in an elevator, besieged by online gamers, frog-splashed by wrestlers, bedazzled in a nightclub, and stashed away in a suburban storm drain resembling a demon clown, Plaza steadfastly maintains her monotone demeanor and clutches her bottle of Blast.

Google Pixel 8: “Javier in Frame”

Blind director Adam Morse and Google highlight some of the visual impairment aids in the Google Pixel 8. We see the journey of visually impaired Javier as he navigates pet ownership, finding new love, and finally starting a family. An emotionally powerful spot shown through the eyes of both Javier and his Pixel 8.

Paramount+: “A Mountain of Entertainment”

Paramount+ literally playing the 90 nostalgic heartstrings on this one. Every millennial watching was secretly singing along to Creed while watching Sir Patrick Steward heroically toss one of our favorite childhood icons in hopes of escaping the frozen gully.
